MTA Bus

All bus stops are on street corners and are demarcated by a tall sign with a bus emblem and a route number. Most stops display a "Guide-A-Ride," a rectangular box that displays the route map and the bus schedule. Bus fare is $2.25, payable with MetroCard or exact change (no dollar bills). Single-ride tickets sold at ticket vending machines are $2.50.

Subway

The New York City subway system consists of 468 stations serving 24 subway lines, serving Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. Routes can be identified by letters or numbers.

Long Island Rail Road

The Long Island Rail Road is a commuter railroad consisting of 11 different branches, running from Montauk -- on the eastern coast of Long Island -- to Penn Station in midtown Manhattan. LIRR has 735 daily trains and serves 124 stations, including stops in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Unfortunately, yellow taxis in the New York area cannot be reserved in advance. Not to worry! There are plenty of taxis (day or night) at the taxi stands outside of each terminal.
